Accountability is NOT an intention, it’s an action. It is how you follow through, refusing to let commitments slide and empowering the right people to get the job done right. “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “It can wait” turns a solid foundation of your business into shifting sand.
Accountability means taking radical responsibility for every action, reaction, and the outcomes they produce, rather than playing the blame game.
When you miss a deadline, lose your temper, or forget a commitment don’t hide the mistake or make an excuse, or hope no one noticed. This compounds the damage like debt with mounting interest
Practice this
Step 1: Name the shortfall (Recognize the truth)
Identify where you gave yourself a “pass”. State exactly what happened without blaming external factors, avoiding the temptation to choose comfort over commitment.
Step 2: Apologize without deflection (Own it)
Accountability demands radical honesty. Deliver the apology without adding a “but” at the end..
Step 3: Correct the course (Take action)
Move immediately from the apology to the specific action you are taking to fix the problem so it doesn’t become a burden to someone else.
